HAPPY CHILDREN’S DAY 2026

Children’s Day 2026 comes with a strong and timely message, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child.” The theme reminds us that every child matters, regardless of where they come from or the conditions surrounding their lives. Every child deserves safety, education, love, opportunity, and a chance to dream about a better future.

Children’s Day used to feel different when we were growing up. It was not always about expensive clothes, big parties, or perfect pictures, life was simple. We walked barefoot on dusty roads unbothered. We played football with balls made from nylon and old clothes. We went to bed hoping tomorrow would bring something better.

Yet, we still laughed.

We woke up early to sweep the compound before running outside to play with friends. We climbed trees. We played ten ten, suwe, hide and seek, and football on open fields. During the rainy season, we children floated paper boats inside small gutters and shouted with excitement whenever the water carried us far away. Evening time was special because everybody gathered outside. We listened to moonlight stories from grandparents while others chased one another until darkness covered the streets.

Life was not perfect. Many families struggled. Some children missed school because their parents could not afford books or fees. Some children had dreams bigger than the reality around them. But even in those difficult moments, there was hope. Children still believed tomorrow would be better.

Today, many Nigerian children still carry those same hopes, especially children living in Internally Displaced Persons camps across the country. Their reality may be different, but their hearts are the same. They want to learn, play, laugh, and dream like every other child.

A child in an IDP camp still smiles during games with friends. A child who has experienced hardship still becomes excited when holding a new exercise book or hearing words of encouragement. Even in difficult environments, children continue to show strength, joy, and resilience.

This is why the Children’s Day 2026 theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” matters deeply. Inclusion means every child should feel seen and valued. It means children should not lose their future because of poverty, displacement, conflict, or circumstances beyond their control.

Over the years, our initiative has remained committed to supporting children living in IDP camps through consistent humanitarian and educational interventions. Our work has focused on restoring hope, dignity, and inclusion for children who are often forgotten by society. Through educational outreach, learning support activities, mentorship sessions, child centered engagements, recreational programs, and emotional support initiatives, we have continued to create safe spaces where children feel seen, valued, and encouraged.

We have organized learning activities that help children remain connected to education despite difficult living conditions. We have supported children with educational materials and engagement sessions designed to improve confidence, curiosity, and participation in learning. Our initiative has also continued to provide psychosocial support through interactive programs, storytelling, mentorship, games, and community engagement activities that help children heal emotionally and socially.

Our outreach efforts over the years have shown us that children in IDP camps are full of talent, intelligence, creativity, and potential. Many of them simply need opportunities, encouragement, and access to resources. We have seen children regain confidence through mentorship and learning opportunities. We have watched children who once struggled with fear and uncertainty begin to smile, ask questions, participate in activities, and dream about their future again.

Inclusion means more than providing temporary assistance. It means ensuring that children affected by displacement are given equal access to education, healthcare, emotional support, protection, and opportunities for growth. It means creating environments where every child feels respected and supported, regardless of their background or present condition.

According to UNICEF Nigeria, millions of children in Nigeria remain out of school, especially children affected by conflict and displacement. Lack of education increases the risk of child labour, exploitation, poverty, and social exclusion. Access to safe and inclusive education therefore remains one of the most important investments for vulnerable children in Nigeria.

Research and humanitarian interventions across Nigeria continue to show that educational support, mentorship, healthcare outreach, feeding programs, and psychosocial care have significant positive impacts on children living in displacement settings. Several organizations working in Abuja and other parts of Nigeria continue to invest in STEM education, healthcare support, scholarship programs, and emotional wellbeing initiatives for children in IDP camps.

Our initiative remains committed to this mission. We continue to work toward building a future where children in IDP camps are not defined by hardship or displacement, but by their talents, dreams, and possibilities. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

As we celebrate Children’s Day 2026, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting inclusion, dignity, education, and hope for every Nigerian child. The future of Nigeria depends on how we protect, support, and invest in children today.

No child should be left behind.
