OUR MISSION

The mission of the initiative is to raise awareness among government bodies and NGOs and to bring positive change to the lives of those who have been neglected by society. Initially established as temporary shelters for people displaced due to insurgency, floods, and inter-tribal conflicts mainly from the northeastern part of Nigeria, these camps have unfortunately now become neglected and permanent residences for thousands of individuals across Nigeria.

OUR FOCUS

The focus of the initiative has been on major health issues, particularly malaria, which has had a significant impact on pregnant women and children under age five in IDP communities. We have visited several camps in Abuja, including Wassa, New Kuchingoro, Kabusa, and Durumi to conduct malaria tests and provide necessary medications and assistance. Our research team investigated the prevalence of malaria in these camps, discovering alarming rates of infection: 70% among pregnant women and children under five in Durumi and Kabusa, 60% in New Kuchingoro, and 80% in Wassa.

We have successfully partnered with various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international humanitarian organizations to provide essential resources such as anti-malarial drugs, treated mosquito nets, and other preventive measures to combat malaria to these communities.

Recognizing the high birth rates among the women in these communities, we have also provided education on the use of contraceptives to promote family planning and reproductive health among women in these camps.

By addressing these urgent health issues and fostering partnerships with key organizations, The Neglected but Not Dejected Initiative is making significant progress in improving the living conditions and health outcomes for displaced persons in Abuja.
